This bill has been lambasted from Jon Stewart to every single Democrat in Congress by the supposed Republican refusal to endorse. But it is time to clear the air with the political wrangling this bill has created. While there is some truth that this bill was delayed by Republicans in lieu of passing the tax cuts, never have the Republicans stated that this bill would never be introduced.
First off, the very means how this bill was originally going to be payed for was impossible. The initial bill stated that a tax loophole would be closed that permitted foreign companies that have subsidiaries here to be taxed. Sounds great right? Unfortunately, in reality that would most likely mean that those corporations would close those subsidiaries here, meaning that jobs would be loss and if they were to leave, what taxes would one collect? So, in essence, the bill would never be funded.
Now that an amended bill has been proposed, with a different way to fund it, I fully anticipate this bill to go through, as it should.
Let me be clear, these heroes deserve whatever is necessary to make their life easier, this bill is a great idea. But let's make sure that there is actual money to pay for their needs and not just tokens of our appreciation, as that was all the original bill was ever going to accomplish.
I'll give this to the Dems, well played.
